Line of Duty Announced for Seventh Season on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-part series written by the show's creator starts production in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the network.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The previous season wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but official word only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the new police oversight body, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most delicate case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
However, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the background, the teaser hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had so many fans watch the developments of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh installment."
He added: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming next year."
"Pleased with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
Show History
Line of Duty premiered in 2012 and became a highly successful TV dramas of the last decade, featuring notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC has not yet announced when the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of season six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the corporation announced on this week that a new season is now in development.
