Pep Guardiola has admitted experiencing "embarrassment" after an exchange with a camera operator in the wake of Manchester City's loss away to the Magpies on Saturday.

When the match concluded, a visibly upset Guardiola stepped onto the field and engaged in intense talks with the referee, Sam Barrott and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães, while also handling the headphones of the camera operator.

"I said sorry," Guardiola stated. "I'm humiliated, regretful, looking back. I don’t like it. I apologised after one second to the cameraman. I am who I am. With a thousand matches under my belt I'm far from perfect, errors happen."

"What is for sure, I defend any team and my club, that’s for sure. Why I support my squad is clear – because from my experience to clinch the title we need near-perfect totals, 98 points, or we fall short."

Team Standing and Manager's Take

The team sits in third and trail leaders Arsenal by seven points after what was their fourth league defeat of the season. "Four defeats in twelve matches means we must do better," Guardiola admitted. "Mathematically, it’s possible still achieve all."

When questioned about a potential quadruple was a realistic aim, Guardiola answered: "You are an experienced journalist, have you ever heard me about the quadruple last winter when we won the quadruple? Never."

Interaction with Guimarães

On the subject of his talk with the Newcastle player, the coach explained: "I've known him a long time and every time after the game, even at the Etihad, we talk in the tunnel. We often meet and we get along well. I enjoy it. I’m an emotional guy, I love to talk and move my hands."

Guardiola would not be concerned if an opposition manager spoke to his players immediately after a game. "Not if it's respectful like I always have done, it’s not a problem," he said, mentioning the referee. "He was part of it throughout the match, constantly. Goodness, very much so."

Controversial Decisions

City were unhappy that the officials did not award City a penalty on a Schär tackle against Foden, and doubted if Guimarães was offside on Barnes' goal Newcastle’s 70th-minute winner. Pictures published later indicate the Brazilian was onside.

Upcoming Milestone

He will manage his century in Europe versus Leverkusen on Tuesday. "That's impressive, showing we compete we have been there," he commented.

The club has ten points after four games of the league phase, while Leverkusen have five.
