The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Has a Plan for How His Sci-Fi Series Will End... At the Moment.

The creative mastermind could not have predicted that Pluribus would become a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

As the debut season of the hit series wrapping up—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—the writers' room recently discussed the fan response and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Viewer Reception

One could easily to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and online debates about Pluribus. The creator is striving to ignore the noise.

“The experience is akin to constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's by design. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by what people are saying.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.

The Big Question: Does the creator See the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by public opinion, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… in a way.

“We've developed some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to discard a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”

Then again, one could always use the classics?

“My dream is Carol to awaken with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on the streaming service.
