Vince Zampella, the mind behind the wildly popular video game Call of Duty, has passed away in a traffic collision in California aged 55.

His passing was verified by Electronic Arts, the parent company of Respawn Entertainment, the video game company that he helped create.

The renowned game designer passed away following his vehicle was involved in a crash and caught fire on a freeway in LA on Sunday morning, according to.

"This represents a heartbreaking loss, and our deepest sympathies go to Vince's family, his family, and all those touched by his work," a representative from Electronic Arts stated.
