Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer behind some of the most iconic looks associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the soft-colored suits that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

His passing follows less than a month after he debuted his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" made famous by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in crafting form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "true original," according to the UK's fashion authority.

By the 1990s, he commenced designing ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as a number of outfits for her American tour following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Dramatic Impact: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The industry says farewell to a genuine innovator whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains indelibly etched.
