The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers launched a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few key changes:
- Each team includes just eight human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for players looking for different ways to enjoy the title. But, if video games have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 fans are mad.
Community Reactions: Anger to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," comments a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and someone else details everything they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback
All that said, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
