The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.

While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”

The event, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.

“It captures the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Each year, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”

Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
