The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
