The Renowned Musician Encourages Backing to Send Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Christmas No 1.
A charity drive is aiming to send a cultural melody to the top of the UK charts. The effort aims to send support to communities in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
A Possibility for Unity and an "Surprise Victory"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a chance to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an surprise number one.
“It would be fantastic if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I’m not gonna be completely disappointed if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”
Defiant Message of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the reimagining of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“The song holds a deeply meaningful spot for a lot of people,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Featured Artists
The track was produced after a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the performance was omitted from the lengthy event due to scheduling overruns.
The diverse array of musicians appearing on Lullaby encompasses a selection of prominent voices from the scene. All took part in the September show, which reportedly raised a significant sum for humanitarian aid.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was produced by a trio of producers and composers. The single blends a fusion of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.
The team running the project have clarified that their goal is to raise as much as possible for a dedicated fund. These donations will be channeled to projects in Palestine through an non-profit partner.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a figure said. “We’ll go for as much as possible. Of course, the higher the total, the greater the impact. Every penny goes out to Gaza.”
The reality in the region was noted for its extreme devastation, with a vast majority of infrastructure described as levelled or seriously harmed.
“Against that backdrop, a handful of millions is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think what does make a difference is first of all making this cause better known and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The track is set to be released at the end of the week. Additionally, a video of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from the 19th of December.
